Adlabs scripting new story for Andhra Pradesh
Anil Ambani is scripting a new story for Telugu cinema. The ADAG-backed Adlabs is investing over Rs 300 crore in buying and leasing movie theatres in Andhra Pradesh to boost Adlabs' distribution, reports CNBC-TV18.
The humble neighbourhood cinema hall in Andhra Pradesh will never be the same again. Adlabs has bought or leased more than 200 small theatres in AP and transformed them into Adlabs cinema halls. Adlabs has invested a crore of rupees in each renovation.
They are going to develop this as a multiplex, with food court and AC to attract people, which we are not able to do now" says TP Anatham, Manager, Sri Saraswathi Theater.
Besides, each cinema hall will have the latest digital cinema technology. Adlabs has begun work on halls in Guntur, Thenali, Vizag and Vijayanagararam and its multiplex in Hyderabad will be up and running in the next few months.
Sources say the company plans to build a film studio in Hyderabad and produce Telugu films. At Rs 250 crore a year the Telugu film industry is India's largest regional film industry and last year it produced more movies than even Bollywood did. No wonder Anil Ambani wants a piece of the action.
