Market Update 3/6/2007

After yesterday's fall the markets saw a sharp recovery and ended the day with hefty gains. IT stocks were the star performers leading the uptrend followed by banking and capital goods.

Sensex closed up 282.05 points or 2.27% at 12697.09, and the Nifty up 79.15 points or 2.21% at 3655.65.

About 1046 shares have advanced, 1443 shares declined, and 45 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,259.52 down 11 points or 0.2%.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,219.45 up 25 points or 0.5%.

The BSE Bankex was up 2% at 6,353.28. PNB, Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank, SBI, Oriental Bank moved upwards.

The BSE IT Index gained 4.9% at 4,961.94. Wipro, Infosys, Mphasis, Hexaware Tech, Satyam advanced.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.5% at 8,368.39. Praj Industries, Dredging Cor, BEML, Bharat Elec and L&T closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 1.2% at 3,367.45. Glenmark, Divis Labs, Cadila Health, Lupin, Cipla closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 1,699.63. United Spirits, Nestle, Shaw Wallace, Tata Tea closed in green.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 2.2% to close at 6,067.22. BPCL, GAIL, Reliance, HPCL, MRPL ended in green.

The BSE Auto Index closed in green up 0.5% at 4,778.82. TVS Motor, Hind Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mah and Mah, Cummins, Bharat Forge ended higher.

The BSE Metal index closed at 8,002.12 down 0.4%. Guj NRE Coke, Sesa Goa, NALCO, Mah Seamless, JSW Steel ended higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8356.06 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 35406.27 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3807.47 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 47569.8 crore.
