Sunil Mittal to step down as Bharti Airtel CEO

Sunil Mittal, CEO of Bharti Airtel, has decided to ease himself out of managing day-to-day operations of his group companies and focus on mentoring, strategy and governance.

While the decision is in line with Mittal's stated intention of focusing on the more macro issues, the change of guard will take place in October when he turns 50. In his new role, Mittal will continue as the Chairman and Group MD of Bharti Enterprises.

He will continue to be intimately involved in all the group companies and concentrate on governance and strategies for the whole group, new projects, managing the Bharati Brand and securing financial health of the organization.

Post March, Mittal will be mentoring and ensuring a high quality pipeline of top managers. Bharati Airtel's current President, Manoj Kohli will succeed Mittal as the new Bharati Airtel CEO.
